Good Morning!

We have a busy, exciting week planned.

We have school wide singing around the Christmas tree every day this week. It is scheduled for half an hour alternating morning and afternoons. It is usually a lot of fun.

Good Morning! I hope you enjoyed your extra long weekend. Things are really hopping around school for the next two weeks. This week is red ribbon week. A pink flier was sent home letting you know of all the activities this week. Just a short recap:Tuesday, Dress up like you favorite rock star; Wednesday dress up hippie style; Thursday; wear your favorite sports jersey; Friday; dress up like your hero or favorite superhero.

Healthy lifestyle week will be November 5 - 12. A green flier will be sent home today with information about this. There is a Family Fitness Day on Saturday Nov.6 from 12 - 3 in the SUU PE building.

Good Morning,
Remember we have a fabulous field trip planned for tomorrow! Every student needs to have school lunch tomorrow. If your child already eats school lunch everything is the same. If your child brings lunch from home or goes home they will need to pay for one lunch tomorrow. We will be leaving the school at 9:00 a.m. and return about 3:20 p.m. It's a full day of learning fun! A water bottle and a jacket would be appropriate.

Fall is surely in the air today. Hope you are enjoying the rain.

We are planing a field trip next Tuesday, October 12 to Parowan. This is along with our study of Iron County. We will be gone all day. Everyone will need to have school lunch that day. If your child already has school lunch every day nothing changes. If your child brings lunch from home or goes home for lunch they will need to purchase a school lunch. This way everyone has the same thing and feelings are not hurt. We will not need reading parents on Tuesday, October the 12. If you can come in another day that week it would be great, if not that's okay.

We took the final on the first section of the times tables. WOW! except for the two who haven't finished everyone was in the 90%. We are ready to move on. We have done, 0, 1, 2, 5, 9, 10, 11, and 12. We have also done 3 x 4 = 12 and 6 x 7 = 42 with some cute rhymes to help us remember them.

We have started doing Fry Phrases (reading fluency) and dictionary skills. We are moving right along in third grade! Thanks for everything you do at home to make our class successful. I do appreciate you.

The vocabulary test on Friday will be these four words plus the four from last week. A total of eight words. I sent the test home with the right answers to study from for this week.

Florid rinse begins today. If you would like your child to receive florid at school contact the PTA. I think these is a $3.00 cost.

Parent-Teacher conferences are coming up the first week in October. School will be dismissed at 2:30 each day during that week. Oct. 4 - 8

Thank you to those who were able to come as reading parents last week. If you have signed up please come in this week. This times are 8:50 - 9:30 Tuesday through Friday. I have assigned students to those who signed up. If things have changed and you can no longer come in please let me know so I can adjust the students.

I am sending home our first book order from Scholastic. If you choose to order books for your child please have your order in by this Friday, September 17. Remember that you need only make out one check to Scholastic. I can not send in cash. Sorry.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Got the last trips of the summer enjoyed. We are right back to work at school. I am ready for the reading parents to come in. The times are 8:50 - 9:30. If you can't remember which day you signed up for please let me know and I will send you an email. If everyone can come we will have almost 15 minutes of individualized reading time with each student. This is wonderful!

We are starting our new math program. We will take a pre-test on Tuesday and divide the entire third grade into groups. Your child will have the opportunity of having Mr. Shirley and Mrs. Holmes for math sometime during the year. We are excited to get going on the new program. One component is a letter to the families explaining each chapter. This should be coming home today (Tuesday) in your child's folder.

Please remember school pictures are this Friday. This is the photo that will be used in the school year book. Everyone will have a picture taken. You only purchase if you would like to.

Remember the Back to School Bash on Monday, September 13. Time is 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. You can purchase tickets early or that evening.

School T-Shirts and Hoodies are for sale in the office. Last chance to order will be On Monday at the back to school bash.

We are collecting box tops. Our first deadline is October 29th.

We are really doing a fantastic job on cursive letters. We have covered the following: i, t, u, w, r, s, and p. We have also started learning to write our own names. Fun times in third grade!

Good Morning,

What a busy week we had last week. Our first spelling test was last Friday. You can check your child's score on power school using your password. Most students did great. A few are going to need parents to help them practice during the week. The list is given out every Monday. It is usually on green paper.
Please plan on attending the Back to School Bash on Monday, September 13. It is fun for the whole family. Food, games, prizes, what more could you ask for?
If you haven't signed up to be a reading parent and you would like to, please let me know. We have openings on Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday. The time is 8:50 - 9:30. You would be working with 2 or 3 students. I provide the materials for you. I would like to get this set up and going right after Labor Day.
Picture day is coming up but I don't have the information. Check the school web site for the dates and information.

We are finally on our way! We had bell work today and it is recorded if you want to get on power school and check how your child did.

We had library today. Most children choose to take their books home to read. We have library every Monday. They may keep the books for two weeks and renew them if needed after that.

We had our first cursive letter. The lower case i. Have your child show you how to make it. Practice always helps.
